The Last Resort

'For those of us who don't live on the beautiful Pacific Islands, they are places to unwind, holiday and take in the sun and friendly cultures. When the tourists leave, they return to their fast-paced lives: working, building and consuming. The Insta shots are taken and the Tik Tok videos uploaded. We are all guilty of this cycle, including me. it's become a collective habit, even an obsession. As the wealthier and more developed countries burn through endless plastic – of course produced by endless dredging of the planet's finite fossil fuels – we are quickly drowning these Pacific jewels through climate change and rising sea levels.

There is a new phrase, 'climate refugees' referring to the people of islands severely affected by rising sea levels including Kiribati, Nauru and Tuvalu. The seas are rising and one day, without immediate regulation of global industry, the islands we once visited may no longer be there.'
