Artwork statement
Vailed by the Wind (2026) forms part of an ongoing exploration of memory, in which painting, drawing and text interact through layering, obscuring and revision.
I don’t begin with a fixed idea of what the work will become. The painting develops through repeated layering, scraping and reworking. In this work, soft pinks, reds and pale yellows overlap with stronger areas of colour, while fragments of inscribed language and traces of earlier marks remain visible within the surface.
This work evokes memories of the wind.
Wind. It catches your breath, pulls at you, pushes you back. You push through and keep going. You sink into your coat. You can barely breathe. And the day is clear. The wind is distant. Yet my cheeks feel cold.
