Branka Sinobad
Artist Profile
Branka Sinobad is a Brisbane/Meanjin-based artist working across painting and drawing. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Art (Honours) from the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University. Her practice investigates painting as a temporal field, where memory is encountered through the emergence of forms. Through layered processes of drawing, painting, obscuring, and revision, she develops surfaces in which gestures emerge, recede, and remain embedded within strata, forming compositions where multiple temporal states coexist. Paint functions as surface time, embedding drawing within a structure of duration. Figures emerge within this layered ground as provisional condensations of time. Some retain a resonance with memory, while others detach and become autonomous formations within the painting. This instability reflects her central concern: how memory is transformed through time, allowing new forms of presence to emerge.
