Artist statement: Responding to the tangled limbs of a Mulga tree on the gravelly ridge of Wana Karnu in Mutawintji National Park, this work is drawn with brush and acrylic ink over nine unique rust transfers. Reminiscent of chemical weathering and sedimentary structures, each rust imprint holds the unpredictable marks and traces of water repeatedly flowing and pooling on a single piece of steel. The process was a way to relinquish some control - inviting the propagation of rust to inform my brush-marks, and the captivating colours and textures of iron oxide to become sky and ground.⁠
