In ‘Kachō Study (after Keinen)’, Michelle Molinari enters into a visual conversation with 19th-century Japanese artist Imao Keinen, known for his intricate bird-and-flower compositions. Here, a cluster of sparrows flutters across the canvas, their lively gestures animated by delicate ink-like linework. Yet, in the foreground, three small forms rest in stark contrast—feathers still, eyes closed. The push and pull between life and death, movement and stillness, is at the heart of Molinari’s Correlations. Each brushstroke bridges the past with the present, reconfiguring art historical traditions through her uniquely poetic lens.
