Equilibrium

'Equilibrium' draws compositional inspiration from a smaller diptych I completed for my solo exhibition Sojourn in 2025, expanding its spatial language into a larger field of suspended contrast. This work explores the threshold between light and shadow, where opposing forces are held in quiet tension. Through layered translucence, the painting evokes a sense of balance not through symmetry, but through resonance- where contrast becomes connection. Areas where pigment has been dissolved or erased often retain echoes of previous gestures, allowing traces to surface and recede in slow rhythm. These subtle remnants create an imprint of mark-making, where absence is as present as emergence. The painting becomes a field of negotiation, holding together what might otherwise remain apart. 'Equilibrium' speaks to the organic unfolding of perception itself. It invites stillness and slow looking, offering a contemplative space where the viewer’s gaze may drift, settle, and return. Within this suspended field, clarity and obscurity, gesture and silence, presence and disappearance coexist in quiet balance. Yet beyond these oppositions, the painting holds something intangible and mysterious- a resonance that cannot be fully named, only felt, reminding us that equilibrium is not fixed but a living threshold sustained through continual dissolution and renewal.
