Draped in an ornate, floral-patterned dress, the central figure in ‘Anthropomorph II’ exudes an ethereal calm. Their delicate, barefoot pose suggests serenity, yet their bird mask—a soft golden hue, almost glowing—introduces an element of strangeness. Perched on their gloved hand, a real owl meets the viewer’s gaze, unblinking and wise. The interplay between reality and illusion is at the heart of Molinari’s Correlations, where identity is fluid, historical influences fold into the present, and the act of seeing is itself a performance.

Michelle Molinari is a painter, taxidermist and installation artist whose practice explores notions of death, fleeting beauty and the act of commemoration. Drawing upon traditions of taxidermic representation and European still life painting, Molinari works across various media to blur the boundaries between the inanimate and corporeal and to question ideas of aesthetic value.
