Exploring three dimensional object making, Small and Wall showcases both representational and abstract sculptural works that operate within a reduced scale suitable for plinth or wall.

JON EISEMAN I have been exploring the genre of birds and bird men for many years now and it has become a recurring theme within the iconography of my sculpture. The theme of birds and bird men has fascinated human kind for millennia through stories, myths, legends, and of course through art. One such story as mentioned in Ulysses, is the legend of the harpies, half bird, half female, who tempted unsuspecting sailors to their deaths by singing beautiful songs, until they went mad with desire. In other stories crows can deliver messages between one world and the next. With this sculpture, The Crow King, I have attempted to embody a sense of wisdom, strength and mystery. KENDAL MURRAY 'The small sculptural artworks Holiday Hearsay and Hideaway, Yesterday invite us to reminisce in the delight-filled spaces of holiday memories. The small purses have been landscaped with those familiar forms, textures and colours of winter and summer foliage, firmly embedded in our sensory memories. The figurative scenes complete with holiday retreats offer enticing invitations into these tiny worlds. In the artwork Holiday Hearsay, we are invited to a tropical location to enjoy a summer holiday filled with sunshine, lush grass, palm trees, exotic flowers, and bird song. A group of young women can be seen making plans for the day. Their cheerful voices raised in anticipation, all the while wondering whether their lovestruck friend will join them.Hideaway, Yesterday shows an old caravan held in the mouth of the purse serving as a winter retreat. We can see a young man is sitting outside the van in friendly banter with a young woman. RICHARD BLACKWELL My work creates an account of the experience of living and interacting in our current social reality. That experience itself is the result of countless phenomenological interactions and relationships that are mediated by technology, ideology and the concrete structure of the built environment. As a result my work is a network of objects, a combination or a collage of marks, observations and processes, parsed by technological systems and personal systems of labor. As experience is mediated by personal desire so is the work. In this sense, equally connected to the external, the work attempts to take note or be aware of my own desire to make art as production, and so reflect my experience of the world in my work. Centered in Sculpture and Printmedia, my practice takes wide ranging interdisciplinary approaches. My work invokes many narrative or thematic concerns relating to the experience of moving through the built environment in a way akin to Benjamin's Flaneur. This can span the spectrum of visual accounts of simple moments in transit to intensive research projects as a reaction to witnessed phenomena.
View more sculptures by Richard BlackwellDONAL MOLLOY-DRUM This small group of works are a response to the unusual times we find ourselves in, and the feeling of uncertainty in our lives that can be so overwhelming. These sculptures came from calm moments of simplicity and reflect on our frailties and strengths, our vulnerabilities and beauty. Details in the landscape are framed by organic shapes, and the relationship between volume and space is a connection for me, between nature and humanity. I hope we can move forward with balance and grace, and a lot more compassion for those more needy than ourselves.

HANNAH QUINLIVAN Through various methods of exploring line and form – via traditional drawing techniques, canvas painting, wire and salt installation, as well the use of LED lighting – Hannah challenges the way we expect drawing to operate and be presented. Subsequently her work becomes experiential not only in its physicality but also through a range of conceptual connections. Grappling with contemporary issues such as human migration, emotional cognition, time’s flowing passage and more traditional explorations of landscape and remoteness, Hannah’s work uses processes of repetition, ephemerality and the interplay of light and shadow to open up discussions around some of contemporary society's most pressing topics. The evolving quality of her practice gives Quinlivan’s work an organic, living quality that creates an immersive experience for the viewer.

DION HORSTMANS Informed by the stylistic principles of geometric abstraction and the bold graphic quality of his Pacific Islander heritage, Dion Horstmans’ multi-dimensional wall sculptures gesture toward a love of the energetic and dynamic. Concerned with creating new volume and momentum with line, light and shadow, Horstmans’ sculptures bridge the space between the two and three dimensional. The illusionistic quality of his works – where form and subsequent shadow interact with one another to create a further, non-material layer of complexity – results in a series of alluring and playful artforms. Horstmans’ steel assemblages possess a rhythm attuned to the natural world. Their geometric forms are dictated by the inherent properties of the mineral alloy of steel, and they choreograph the energies of the maker and the world around him into a coherent whole.
