Hobie Porter is a Henry Lawson Scholarship recipient, holding a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts) with Honours (Contemporary Art) and a Graduate Diploma of Education. Hobie has been exhibiting regularly since 2004 and teaches painting at the North Coast Institute of TAFE.
2027 will be a significant year for this celebrated landscape artist. Hobie Porter’s forthcoming exhibition, Wildergarden, will first be presented at the Tweed Regional Gallery in March 2027 before travelling to Flinders Lane Gallery in Melbourne in October 2027.
His earlier major exhibitions include the 2018 retrospective Hobie Porter: The Last Decade at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery, and Unnatural History: The Tower Hill Project which toured to both Lismore Regional Gallery (2018) and Warrnambool Art Gallery (2016).
His work has been selected for recent survey exhibitions, including Love at Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre in 2019, The North Head Project at Manly Art Gallery & Museum in 2017, Assemble | Disassemble at Caboolture Regional Gallery in 2015 and The New Arcadia at Lismore Regional Gallery in 2011.
Porter has undertaken an artist residency at Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery (2018), and has been shortlisted for the John Leslie Landscape Art Prize (2014), the Colville-Loyd Rees Landscape Prize, Colville Gallery, Hobart (2013), the Mosman Art Prize (Mosman Art Gallery, Sydney) and the Paddington Art Prize (Mary Place Gallery, Sydney). In 2012, He was awarded Highly Commended in the Essential Energy Countryscapes Art Prize (Bathurst Regional Art Gallery). His work is held in numerous public collections including Manly Art Gallery & Museum, Warrnambool Art Gallery, Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery, Mosman Art Gallery and Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre.
