The region has been declared a hotspot for its rich biodiversity, while ironically, it is also widely used for a range of agrarian monocultures. The region is a site of competing community interests and is something that provides a source of tension in my landscape paintings of my home environment.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAllusions to loss and transience tend to recur in my work. I have come to understand that these are subtle themes that help me to access a particular interpretation of the sublime in the landscape, at once both intimate and vast.  I also like to work with dramatic contrasts in lighting while paying close attention to subtle shifts in colour and tonality.
