The analogy encompasses physical, sociological, and spiritual realms. In this landscape, transparent archetypal figures connect the earth to the sky, each visible within the other. Five pointed stars mirror the anatomy of a five fingered hand, signifying parallels between celestial and human bodies. The life-sized figures, whose colours are inspired by post image editing processes on the James Webb Telescope, are not to represent the cosmos as human-like, or human centred, but as intimate, creative, queer, and autonomous.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1005/4179/2550/files/FLORENCE-STEEL_Macrocosm-light_oil-on-canvas_198x153cm__5500.jpg?v=1793155093
microcosm-5
Microcosm 5

Artwork Statement
Originally designed to represent the microcosm along-side Macrocosm (2025), this rotating hand composition is a recurring motif I use to explore colour relationships and approaches to transparency.
