Ride (2026) forms part of an ongoing exploration of memory, in which painting, drawing and text interact through layering, obscuring and revision. The work is built through layers of polymer paint, spray paint and transparent gesso, with charcoal drawing and fragments of text worked into the surface. An awkward, cartoon-like figure takes shape through repeated, overlapping charcoal lines, creating a sense of movement across the surface. Dark charcoal lines contrast with areas of pale pink, cream, grey and red, while traces of earlier marks remain visible within the layered surface.

Drawing on memories of learning to rollerblade, the painting moves between the fear of falling and the pleasure of movement. The peculiar struggle to stay upright becomes a reflection on the uncertainties and small absurdities of everyday life.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1005/4179/2550/files/Branka-Sinobad_Ride.-Fly.-Ride_2026_gesso-polymer-paint-spray-paint-charcoal-and-pencil-on-canvas_167-x-137cm.jpg?v=1793145344
sea-is-clearer-than-the-wind
Sea is Clearer than the Wind

Artwork Statement
Sea is Clearer than the Wind (2026) forms part of an ongoing exploration of memory, in which painting, drawing and text interact through layering, obscuring and revision. A mixed-media painting on wooden panel, it combines layers of polymer and spray paint with drawing and handwritten fragments. Shades of red and pink dominate the powdery surface, while fine lines and partially obscured words move across the painted layers.

I often remember things in shades of red and pink. Something about the painting's powdery surface brings back a memory of the sea — the beauty of the water and the sensation of its surface. The inscribed words feel like they cut through water, evoking freshness and movement. They become part of the image, moving between language, marks, memory and feeling.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1005/4179/2550/files/BRANKA-SINOBAD_Sea-is-Clearer-than-the-Wind_2016_Mixed-media-on-wooden-panel_50x50__1400---Branka-Sinobad_e0df0c01-c580-455a-a642-33daf790c6eb.jpg?v=1793146615
vailed-by-the-wind
Vailed by the Wind

Artwork Statement
Vailed by the Wind (2026) forms part of an ongoing exploration of memory, in which painting, drawing and text interact through layering, obscuring and revision.

I don’t begin with a fixed idea of what the work will become.
